Ethernet First Mile (EFM)

Ethernet First Mile (EFM) is the cheaper alternative to Fibre services. It provides fast and reliable internet connectivity for businesses that have outgrown traditional broadband.

EFM is also referred as EOC (Ethernet Over Copper) and is provisioned over multiple copper pairs from the exchange. Different speeds are delivered using 4 pairs (10MB), 6 pairs (10MB) and 8 pairs (20MB).

The service is very reliable and fault tolerant as it uses number of copper pairs into single connection. In case of a pair failure, the connection runs at a lower speed.

Key Features:

Performance

Performance is dependent on the distance from exchange, if your location is within 3km of an exchange and you are not on a RIM (insufficient copper) we can typically deliver speeds up to 20mbps.

Economical

Whilst not as fast as fibre, EoC is typically cheaper to connect and operate, and is a great option if you’re looking for a reliable connection to support video conferencing, cloud and VoIP services.

Resilient
Excellent resilient service due to multiple pairs; if one pair fails, the service continues over the remaining pairs
